Cro Cop vs Overeem 2 on NYE
Mirko Cro Cop and Alistair Overeem’s first fight at Dream 6 ended in controversy, after the “Demolition Man” decided to demolish the “Croatian sensation’s” nut sack with three knee strikes. The injury Cro Cop says caused him to urinate blood and undergo surgery to repair. Now the two will meet up and settle their score on New Year’s Eve for K-1/ Dream Dynamite.
Cro Cop confirmed the two fighters have agreed in principle yesterday to Croatian website Janvo about the possible rematch. The good people at Fighters.com translated the interview for us.
“We will fight, we will have a rematch for New Year,” “Cro Cop” told Janvo, then added, “We have already agreed in principle about it, but it has not been confirmed 100 percent.”
Cro Cop also spoke about needing surgery to repair the injury.
“The third hit was very hard and it has given me small complications. I had to undergo a small operation later, but it is that kind of a job. I urinated a little blood, but that is all a part of the sport.”
Cro Cop may need to really take a look in the mirror if he can not get pumped up for this fight, and wonder if he still wants to fight in MMA to secure his legacy. We all know Cro Cop said he would look to head to the UFC after 2008, but he has looked anything but impressive since coming to Dream. He fought a nobody (who’s name is not even worth me looking up) and he destroyed him, but in his fight with Overeem he was losing pretty bad when the fight ended.
Alistair Overeem has stated several times he suspected Cro Cop did not return to action because he knew he was losing their fight. Many critics and fans have not disagreed either, but we will see which Cro Cop comes out to fight Overeem at Dream Dynamite on New Years Eve.
