As we all know on October 4 at EliteXC: HEAT in Sunrise, Fla. former Ultimate Fighter season 2 contestant Seth Petruzelli shocked the world when he defeated Miami street brawler Kimbo Slice in just 14 seconds. Just two days after that at a radio station in Orlando, Fla. Petruzelli had said that he was paid extra to stay on in his feet with Slice and not take the fight to the ground where Kimbo still needs to improve on. EliteXC Head of Fighter Operations Jeremy Lappen told SI.com’s Josh Gross that Petruzelli was clearly given a knockout bonus to go along with the win which was revised in his fight contract.
Well according to MMAConvert.com they found something in the report from the Florida DPBR that got their attention when Executive Director of the Fla. DPBR Thomas Molloy said.
“there was nothing written in the contract to indicate Mr. Petruzelli would be compensated by fighting in a certain manner.”
Meaning that there was no bonus in Petruzelli’s fight contract stating that he was given a knockout bonus for his 14 second win over Kimbo Slice. Florida DPBR press secretary followed Alexis Antonacci followed up Molloy’s statement by adding,
“There was not a ‘knockout bonus.’ There was a win bonus.”according to MMAConvert.com
Petruzelli’s contract says he recieved $35,000 to show up for the fight and a $15,000 bonus to win the fight. So in turn, Lappen had contradicted himself as that is what was stated in the EliteXC Florida investigation of the main event bout. Lucky for Lappen, EliteXC and Pro Elite had ceased operations, but if something can be made out of this the Florida DPBR can reopen the case if they happen to see fit. Stay tuned!
