Fitch vs Gono at UFC 94 possible

After winning eight straight fights inside the Octagon and winning fifteen straight overall, Jon Fitch lost to Georges St.Pierre at UFC 87 this past August in an opportunity to become the Welterweight Champion. Since than Fitch has not fought, but could be stepping back into the Octagon very soon as he could be facing former Pride FC veteran Akihiro Gono at UFC 94 in January.

According to MMAmania.com both Fitch and Gono have both been offered bout agreements to face one another at the Las Vegas event on Super Bowl weekend in late January that will feature a main event super fight between UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St.Pierre (who beat Fitch) defending his title against Lightweight Champion BJ Penn.

If you remember Fitch and Gono were originally scheduled to face one another at UFC 82 this past March, but due to a hand injury sustained by Gono he was taken off the card and instead, Chris Wilson took Gono’s place to fight Fitch who was able to defeat Wilson and tie Royce Gracie with a UFC record eigth staright victory which earned him the opportunity to face St.Pierre at UFC 87.

Fitch will be looking to get back in line for another shot at the Welterweight title starting with a win over Gono who was edged by newcomer Dan Hardy in a split decision loss at UFC 89 in Birmingham, England in October.

The possible additions of Fitch and Gono to the UFC 94 card would already add another star studded event with St.Pierre facing Penn and a Light Heavyweight showdown featuring Lyoto Machida taking on Thiago Silva. We will keep you posted when this potential matchup between Fitch and Gono becomes official.
