Soko back to Japan?

Soko back to Japan?

It appears that recently released former UFC fighter fighter Remeau Thierry Sokoudjou will return back to his roots in Japan where he fought for the now Zuffa owned Pride FC. Sokoudjou was released last week after losing to Luiz Cane at UFC 89, losing 2 of 3 fights in the Octagon.

According to Franklin McNeil of ESPN’s MMA Live the Japanese promotion Dream is the frontrunners for the Team Quest trained “African Assassin”.

Sokoudjou was brought in with high hopes of a long future in the UFC after beating top 10 Light Heavyweight fighters Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ricardo Arona by KO in back to back fights.

He may not be done with the UFC long term and may have needed more experience. He did only have 5 fights when he entered the Octagon the first time and lost to Machida at UFC 79 by submission and seemed rusty from a long lay off. He later bounced back and beat former Pride fighter Kazuhiro Nakamura by TKO at UFC 84.

In his last fight with the UFC he seemed in control of his fight with Luis Cane early on, punishing him with hard leg kicks which stopped Cane from coming forward. In the second round he looked less aggressive and tired, he was hit with a knee that rocked him and was the begining of the end. Cane followed up with more strikes and finished the African Assassin in the second round. In both losses he looked sharp and came out strong only to fade later on. He may look to go into Japan and get a couple of wins under his belt to regain his confidence and eventually make a return to the UFC where a few of his Team Quest Teammates already fight.

You make it sound like zuffa is a good place to fight? Those idiots are ruining the sport and you’re talking about Soko going back to them?

What a crappy column. Soko fought some tough fighters, but the biggest mistake he made was to sign with the mafia. They ruin careers, and they rarely make worthwhile fights.

Dream is a better event anyway.

@wentzel, Actually I love Dream and I am dieing for Japanese MMA to be what it once was, but the truth is there is no competition for Sokoudjou in Japan right now.

By the way you are saying that the UFC doesn’t make worth while fights what the hell do you call a quality fight if Rampage vs Wanderlei 3, GSP vs BJ 2 and Franklin vs Henderson all happening?

Last time I check we cover Affliction, Dream, Sengoku, StrikeForce, WEC and the UFC all the same.
