Vinny Magalhaes did not lack confidence during this season of The Ultimate Fighter and with good reason the submission specialist would finish anyone who came within arms distance. Now Vinny who left Team Quest for Xtreme Couture to work more on his wrestling and striking, predicts he will knockout his opponent at the finale in Ryan Bader.

Magalhaes spoke to Dave Meltzer of Yahoo! Sports about his move from Team Quest to Xtreme Couture and the improvements he has made since joining Randy Couture’s gym.

“On the ground in my wins, it took 19-25 seconds before I got the submission,” said Magalhaes, who left Team Quest, disappointed with his lack of coaching in wrestling and stand-up, after the show’s filming ended and has been training at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas with people like Shawn Tompkins, Stephan Bonnar, Griffin and Randy Couture. “I don’t think Bader can just hold me down for 15 minutes.”

Vinny also predicted that Bader would see those improvements in the finale when they face off for the 205 pound TUF crown.

“The last fight I had was six months ago,” he said. “I’m not just jiu-jitsu. I think he sees it that he’s the better striker and he’ll try and keep it on his feet. That may have been the case during the show. But I’m not the same fighter. I’ve been training my boxing a lot and I think I’ll win by knockout. Bader thinks he can outstrike me, but he can’t.”

Anyone who has followed Vinny while on the show knows he is in excellent company at Xtreme Couture with top grapplers Robert Drysdale and Jacare (who trains there periodically) who are looking to become full time MMA fighters. Vinny’s Jiu-Jitsu is scary we could only imagine what he could do with striking and wrestling as well.
