Official, Cro Cop confirms
Updated on the bottom - It appears that Alistair Overeem will not be getting his rematch with Mirko Cro Cop afterall at K-1 & Dream’s New Years eve show Dynamite, instead the Croatian sensation will face off against Hong Man Choi. This is definitely not the way for Mirko to kill those voices saying he ducked the fight with Overeem.
K-1’s Korean website had the official announcement about the New Years Eve bout, that will take place under K-1 rules not the MMA unified rules.
Old Cro Cop how we miss you
This will be the first time in many years for Cro Cop under the K-1 rules and banner. Cro Cop left K-1 for Pride after the two had merged in the companies earlier years to help build publicity in Japan. He was the only fighter to jump ship at the time and was still considered to be one of the world’s most dangerous strikers and fighters in MMA and Kickboxing.
Cro Cop was expected to fight Alistair Overeem at Fields Dynamite in a rematch of their first controversial fight at Dream 5, but Cro Cop never signed his deal according to sources close to K-1 and Dream. Overeem constantly said all along he felt as if Cro Cop would not fight him, and it appears he was right on these feelings.
Update - Mirko Cro Cop confirmed the bout with Hong Man Choi in his MMA-ID Blog, and says the fight is officially on.
“I’m excited to let you know that I have accepted DREAM’s offer to fight against Hong-man Choi on December 31 at Dynamite show. We arranged all details and the contract has been signed – the fight is officialy on.”
Cro Cop also went on to say that fighting Choi under MMA rules was not fair to his opponent given his lack of experience. Many fans have expressed their frustrations with Cro Cop not excepting a fight against Alistair Overeem.

I’m sorry for cursing but to all the fucking idiots who think Cro Cop is ducking anyone, read the facts. FEG did not want the rematch on this card and that is the reason it’s not happening. (Probably because the NYE shows always do well, so it makes more sense to put a big matchup on a later/weaker card.)

Cro Cop did talk about it, and said he wasn’t even offered a contract. Sadaharu Tanigawa said they want it on a different card. I guess when high executives say they don’t want the fight on NYE the easiest thing is to deduce it’s not happening becuase Cro Cop is scared.
