Tonight on Spike TV go behind the scenes of one of the biggest fights in UFC and MMA history when Georges St.Pierre and BJ Penn meet at UFC 94. Tonight the first of the three part series entitled “Primetime” will air at 10:00 PM on Spike TV.
The UFC is looking to duplicate the success of HBO’s “24/7″ show which is used to feature Boxing’s biggest events. The last event that got “24/7″ treatment was Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather and that turned out to be Boxing’s highest grossing event ever.
I know that the UFC attempted to make a “Primetime” show for UFC 91 “Couture vs Lesnar”, but due to time restrictions the show never materialized. Not that the event needed the behind the scenes treatment any way, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer that the event sold 1.1 million pay per view buys.
If you have not noticed, St.Pierre vs Penn has been given even more special treatment by the UFC and the press tour actually started in November right after UFC 91 ended. The event is sold out according to the UFC, so I doubt it will have trouble selling pay per views.
So don’t forget to set your DVRs and TiVos for tonight at 10:00 PM on Spike .
