Sherk to face Frankie Edgar at UFC 98

Just last week there were rumors that former UFC Lightweight champion Sean “The Muscle Shark” Sherk could possibly facing Roger Huerta up in Montreal, Canada for UFC 97 in the month of April, but now that appears to be nothing but speculation as now Sherk is expected to be going one on one against another top Lightweight contender in Frankie “The Answer” Edgar at UFC 98 in the month of May.

Reports out of MMAmania.com say that sources close to Sherk’s camphave revealed that the bout has been agreed between both fighters and is expected to take place on the main card of the event.

Sherk who is on a mission to regain the Lightweight championship failed in his first attempt to get it back when he lost to current title holder BJ Penn at UFC 84 this past May, but was able to bounce right back with a unanimous decision victory over another top young Lightweight contender in Tyson Griffin at UFC 90 last October in which he also received a bonus from the UFC for “Fight of the Night” honors along with Griffin and now Sherk will look to get a step closer to another title shot but must get passed a hungry Frankie Edgar.

As for Edgar, he lost his first UFC bout last April to Gray Maynard at UFC Fight Night 13, but was also able to rebound with a hard fought victory over Hermes Franca at UFC Fight Night 14 this past July in which he also earned “Fight of the Night” honors as well. “The Answer” was supposed to originally make his return at the UFC Fight for the Troops card this past December to face Matt Wiman, but an injury had forced Edgar to withdraw from the bout and was later replaced by Jim Miller. Now he will also get the opportunity to get one step closer to a Lightweight title match should make a big statement with a win over Sherk.

UFC 98 is set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on the 23 of May from Las Vegas, Nevada with a potential main event showdown between former UFC Welterweight champions Matt Hughes and Matt Serra.
