Cyborg joins up with StrikeForce
Now that StrikeForce has emerged as the buyer for ProElite’s assets, they have since locked up a deal with Showtime to hold 16 MMA events this year and have been bringing in a number of former EliteXC fighters into the fold as well. The California based promotion took another big step as they locked up Women’s MMA contender Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos to a world exclusive 4 fight deal this past weekend. Now that StrikeForce has Cyborg in the mix, will Gina Carano be next?
Sherdog.com’s Loretta Hunt reports that according to Cyborg’s deal with StrikeForce, she had to withdraw her name from the XMMA bout with Marloes Coenen in order to sign her new deal with the organization, but she could possibly be on one of StrikeForce’s next few events.
And in Gina Carano’s case, StrikeForce is already in negotiations to try and bring her in as well so she could also potentially have that much anticipated bout with Cyborg down the road.
Mike Afromowitz also says that he has asked Carano to be apart of their first card, but nothing is set in stone just yet as just like Cyborg’s contract, Carano’s contract still needs to be reworked.
Should Carano also decide to sign up with StrikeForce, she will not be facing Cyborg on the April 11 card. The StrikeForce April 11 event will air on Showtime and will be held at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California and we URDirt.com will keep you posted on whether or not StrikeForce brings in Gina Carano and other former EliteXC fighters into the mix once we get word.
I want to see that fight happen Gina better wise up and sign so they could make a monster card on April 11.
StrikeForce is getting better everyday, Coker is a very smart guy he worked them up from small venues and events into what can possibly be a legitimate threat to the UFC.
If Showtime promotes their shows the right way unlike the way they did with ShowXC they have a shot at competing with the UFC. A deal on CBS or NBC would cement StrikeForce as a bigger opponent then Affliction as well. The only thing they are missing now is a legitimate star and that is where Gina Carano would fit in nicely.
Feel free to argue with me I will respond
@Narcisist, you make a good point as far as them needing a star but Kimbo will never be excepted in the US again as a mma fighter and Gina cant fight every ppv for them
