UFC 2009 Undisputed has looked great when the gameplay videos, screen shots and previews are shown, but what about the gameplay details? Today a few more details were released on the game’s ambitious career modes and to say the least it sounds impressive.

CBS Sports Todd Martin got his hands on the game for an early preview of the UFC’s new video game.

Grappling is controlled by the right thumb stick

“Once the fight goes to the ground, the player can go on offense with strikes or fight for positioning and a potential submission using the right stick. Rotating the right stick 90 degrees allows both the top fighter and the bottom fighter to work for a better position. You can transition from full guard to half guard to side control to north/south or full mount. On the bottom you can use the rubber guard and reverse your opponent using an omo plata”.

Better be good on the ground too

Better be good on the ground too

You have to be excited about these last two bits of information because that means the ground game will be another game on to itself. So like in real life you better be really good all around in all aspects of your game.

“When your opponent is vulnerable, you go for a submission by spinning the right stick frantically. These submissions include guillotine chokes, rear naked chokes, knee bars and more. However, these submissions may prove to be harder to secure than many players would like”.

Create a Player details emerge

“After you create your character, Dana White introduces you to the UFC and puts your fighter in a tryout fight that will determine where he starts on the totem pole. At first he will be fighting fictional lower-end fighters, and over time he’ll move on to mid-level fighters and eventually the upper-echelon stars”.

Classic fights a new detail emerges

Classic fights a new detail emerges

I cannot wait to play this game in career mode I am not a big fan of online play myself, but for this game I will be on X-Box Live the week the game is released.

Earn “cred” points improve your fighter

“Your fighter progresses by improving his skills and gaining “cred points” that can be used to move to the next level. UFC matchmaker Joe Silva will offer you a number of potential opponents with different styles for your fighter’s next bout, with the tougher opponents yielding more cred points. It is then your responsibility to properly prepare for the fight”.

Career mode lasts 7 years, 10 hours in real life

“Career mode lasts for seven years, at which point your fighter will have a retirement fight. If you perform well enough you will gain induction into the UFC Hall of Fame. In addition, players can take their created fighters and compete online against the created fighters of other players. The developers say career mode for any given created fighter will last around 10 hours”.

Classic fights added

“An additional feature in the game is “classic fights.” In this mode, the player will have the opportunity to re-create 12 classic UFC fights like Tito Ortiz vs. Chuck Liddell, Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin and Forrest Griffin vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua”.

The coolest feature about the “classic fights” is that you must finish your opponent how they were finished in their real life fight. Similar to Madden Football where you take over in classic games, great idea.

Everytime I report a new detail or piece of information it seems like May 19, gets further away, but it is right around the corner. See you outside of Game Stop or EB Games at Midnight.

Why only 7 years man?? all the rest sounds awsome but fighters are entering their prime like year 4-5 of a real life career it should be like 12-13 years and like year 10 you fighter starts to have trouble maintaining skill points which makes it up to you when you retire

From what I have seen the only other way to extend your fighters life is to go online and play. It does kind of suck in a way that your forced to retire, but how many times can you fight the same guys? What I think they should do for the next game is make sure there are more of the “Up and coming” fighters you face in the beginning get better as well and extend the career mode.

I’m calling BS on theis ^^$^ game in career mode – I have a 22 year old fighter (when created) that is 29-1, with 29 KO’s, 21 fight unbeaten streak – I am the champ, have a full trophy case and keep destroying every computer opponent – emails from Dana says he loves me – I do 90% of the promotional events, all the academies, and take all early fights…

And I am being forced to retire – WTF!??!!!

That’s fkn BS – reality? Would the UFC retire the greatest fighting phenom to ever hit the sport? FK no, that would be baaaad business.

Career mode is BS, and NOT worth the time.

@travis, You have to use add to you Standup power from what I know. That or complete the tasks from the Muay Thai coaches. If you complete a good amount of them then you can raise your level.
