A Middleweight bout has been added to the UFC 99 Cologne, Germany event on June 13 between American Top Team’s Alessio Sakara (13-7) and Brazilian Top Team’s Rousimar Palhares (9-2). The match-up will more than likely be taking place on the undercard portion of the event which will be headlined by Rich Franklin taking on Wanderlei Silva in a catch weight bout.
According to MMAWeekly.com sources close to the fight say that the match-up has been confirmed.
Sakara was originally rumored to face Alan Belcher at the event, but that bout was scrapped when Belcher was offered the opportunity to face the newly acquired Yoshihiro Akiyama at the centennial UFC 100 card in the month of July. Now Sakara will face the BJJ submission tech in Palhares.
Palhares bounced back with a dominating performance over Jeremy Horn back at UFC 93 this January to get the unanimous decision victory after being handled by Dan Henderson at UFC 88 last September improving his Octagon record to 2-1 and will now look to get on a winning streak with a victory over Sakara.
Sakara on the other hand is 4-4 with the UFC and really needs to get a win under his belt if he is to stick around a lot longer even though he was a winner in his last fight at UFC Fight Night 15 with a vicious head kick to Joe Vedepo to get him back on track, but Palhares is going to be a handful for “Legionarius” and will need to stuff his takedown attempts to keep the fight on the feet.
We will keep you posted on more UFC 99 news and rumors as soon as something breaks.
Damn UFC 99, 100 and 101 are just going to be deep all around. UFC 100 is not as epic as I hoped but it is looking good
@Serial, dont forget that UFC 102 might be Maia vs the winner of Silva-Leites and Nog vs Randy
Palhares will win this by sub in the first he is gonna tap him fast
Meh. This is not a very competitive fight. Palhares via sub in Rd 1.
@Cole, agreed straight to the unemployment line for Sakara after this one
