Earlier tonigtht the Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced three main event bout type fights for the upcoming historic UFC 100 card on July 11 and will have two championships on the line with Georges St-Pierre set to defend the Welterweight title against the number 1 contender Thiago Alves. In a Middleweight bout Ultimate Fighter coaches Dan Henderson of team US will be taking on UK coach Michael Bisping with the winner earning himself a UFC Middleweight title match down the line and the headliner will be a Heavyweight bout as Brock Lesnar will be facing Frank Mir with the winner becoming the undisputed UFC Heavyweight champion of the world.

The long awaited rematch between Lesnar and Mir will finally take place as Mir is finally recovered from his injury after having their fight originally scheduled for UFC 98 in May get postponed. At UFC 81 in February of 2008 it was Mir who weathered a barrage of Lesnar’s punches and ground and pound as he was able to grab a hold of Lesnar’s leg to apply a heel hook submission for the win and now that Lesnar has beaten Randy Couture to capture the Heavyweight title at UFC 91 this past November he will be looking for sweet revenge against Mir who defeated Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira to capture the interim Heavyweight championship at UFC 92 last December.

“Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir put on one of the most intense one round fights I’ve ever seen at UFC 81,” said UFC President Dana White, referring to Mir’s submission victory over Lesnar in February of 2008. “But when it was over, both guys saw things very differently. Lesnar blamed his loss on inexperience and being too aggressive, while Mir saw his win as a triumph of his technique, something he says will happen every time they fight. On July 11th, these guys have their chance to do it again, and while a lot has happened for these two since that first fight, I know the rematch is going to be just as intense as the first one, especially considering that the winner walks away as the UFC Heavyweight Champion.”

In the Welterweight division the current champion Georges St-Pierre further cemented his legacy as one of the best fighters in his weight class when he defeated Lightweight champion BJ Penn at UFC 94 in January where he was able to impose his will on the Hilo, Hawaii native to retain his championship, but will have to face the human wrecking machine that is Thiago Alves who was won 7 straight overall and was dominant in his last performance at UFC 90 last October when he was able to keep a furious pace against Josh Koscheck to become the number 1 contender to St-Pierre’s title.

“Georges St-Pierre may be the most athletically-gifted welterweight champion in UFC history, but at UFC 100 he will face his toughest challenge yet,” said White. “Thiago Alves is a Muay Thai wrecking machine who, like St-Pierre, is huge for a welterweight. He trains with the world-famous American Top Team and is on a seven fight win streak, including victories over top contenders Karo Parisyan and Josh Koscheck as well as former world champion Matt Hughes. Alves has improved with every fight and I am expecting an explosive fight from the two top welterweights in the world.”

And in the third matchup a Middleweight bout between DanHenderson and Michael Bisping will determine who moves closer to a shot at the 185 pound crown when Henderson defeated Rich Franklin at UFC 93 to earn a coaching spot for the USA on The Ultimate Fighter and as for Bisping he earned his coaching spot to lead team UK after scoring a unanimous decision victory over Chris Leben at UFC 89to be put in this position at the promotion’s milestone event.

“Michael Bisping has always been a talented fighter, but he’s gotten even scarier once he dropped down to the middleweight division,” said White. “He’s getting better and better with each fight, but the true test for him will be Dan Henderson. Henderson’s one of the best fighters of this era, he’s dangerous wherever the fight goes, and he’s got more world-class experience than almost anyone out there. I’m really looking forward to this, and I think the winner will be the guy who fights the perfect fight on July 11th.”

UFC 100 will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and will also be live on pay-per-view.

    Lesnar, easily over Mir.

Alves over the greaser, just cause I hate him. I was actually NOT going to get this ppv because the greaser is on the card…but I really want to see Mir get shut up. Almost as much as I want to see Serra get shut up. or shot. either one.

Hendo, cause he’s an f-ing beast, and he’s in his element when he’s teaching. The three months of TUF leading to this fight will leave Hendo in PRIME shape and sharp focus. And cause Rich Henderson doesn’t know how to block his nose.
