Mike Swick: “I want to fight top guys, Matt Hughes, Georges St. Pierre, Thiago Alves”

Mike Swick faced a dangerous, but inexperienced opponent at UFC 99 in former Ultimate Fighter contestant Ben Saunders. Many people felt that Saunders would give Swick problems because of his size and dangerous clinch. Swick was impressive again and defeated Saunders by TKO in the second round extending his win streak to 4 straight fights.
Now at the UFC 99 post fight press event MMAWeekly.com quoted Swick who said he wants a big fight.
“This is my tenth fight in the UFC, I’m 9-1. I want to fight for the title,” he stated in the Octagon after his second round TKO victory. “I want to fight top guys, Matt Hughes, Georges St. Pierre, Thiago Alves.”
Swick will have to wait for Georges St.Pierre and Thiago Alves to fight at UFC 100 for the belt before he gets a title shot, but Matt Hughes is available after his win at UFC 98.
“I understand if not. And if not, I’d love to fight Matt Hughes. He’s one of the most decorated fighters in UFC history… it would be an honor to fight him”.
No one knows who Swick will fight next, but I am pretty sure that Matt Hughes would accept that challenge. Hughes has spoken about getting back into title contention and Swick would be a good win to make a case for a title shot.
I wouldn’t hold my breath, given the fact that we never know what Joe Silva is planning next. As usual we will keep you posted as soon as we find out who Swick will fight next.

According to Mike Swick…Is Hughes the new gatekeeper now? Cz everybody wants to fight Matt Hughes now that he is getting old..everybody wants to take a piece of that cake before going into retirement. Matt Hughes is now officially the WW gatekeeper.

Swick vs Kampmann would be insane! They’re both in a similar situation. Both on a meteoric rise through the WW division. These two HAVE to fight. It wouldnt be right if they didnt.
