We know Jon “Bones” Jones is one of the UFC’s best up and coming fighters at only 21 years old. Jones is known for his unusual striking and even more unusual, but effective tosses in the Octagon. Now Jones has his eyes on another fighter who was considered to have an unusual fighting style; Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.

USA Today’s Sergio Non caught up to the confident Jones, who spoke about how he has his eyes on Lyoto Machida in the future and feels when he gets to his level he can beat him.

jon-jones“I think Machida is getting a lot of hype, and I know he has lots of big wins over a lot of big fighters, and a lot of experience over me.
I don’t think he’s Christ; I think he’s very beatable. They’re looking at him and his karate like he’s Bruce Lee. He’s not Bruce Lee. He’s very beatable.
I honestly believe that a great Muay Thai champion will beat a great karate fighter any day; it’s been proven on lots of occasions. If Machida has (the belt) by the time I get to that level, I’ll be ready for him. I’ll have a lot of game planning and a lot of strategy ready. I want to be that greater Muay Thai fighter to beat a great karate champion.
I don’t think Rashad Evans came with any type of game plan, but to look really cool or look really fancy, dancing around in pretty footwork stances. He really didn’t come up with any way to beat him. I didn’t see any of his strengths. I didn’t see any takedown attempts or any straight right hands that are always good against southpaws or anything. He was just out there looking flashy.
I’m going to go out there and pull the trigger if I ever get to fight Machida. I respect him a lot, but I definitely think he’s very beatable. I know I have a lot of time before I get to that level of fighting him, but when I do, I definitely won’t be nervous or intimidated by him at all, and (I’ll be) ready to fight him.”

We all know that Jon Jones has a lot of time to develop into a threat in the Light Heavyweight division. His recent win over Stephan Bonner showed us just how good he can become eventually in the UFC.

He kept him off guard and the former TUF 1 finalist didn’t seem like he knew what was coming next. Like Lyoto Machida in his first few fights in the UFC, no one knows what to expect next from Jones awkward style.

Fan Question: Will Jon Jones develop into a threat to Lyoto Machida in the future?

” if I ever get to fight Machida”

YOU WONT..some other lowbie dude will kick your ass before u get close to Machida’s status..

Jones got skills but he beat a rusty Stephan Bonner, if he tried that before his knee injury he would have been tooled. Bonner looked slow and rusty, not making excuses but he was on a roll before he got hurt. His Jits looked deadly

Jones is a serious prospect but he’s biting off more then he can chew

young and cocky… destroy one of the LHW top 10 first before you open your mouth. this kid is smoking crack.

I agree with Hellboi…and not only that..,his cardio is also untested. He needs to be humble.

On one hand Jones is talking a lot of crap he can’t really back up yet, and biting off WAY more than he can chew. On the other hand give this kid a few years and He’s DEFINETLY gonna be contender quality especially with Greg Jackson as his trainer. I see his cockiness an effect of his youth and inexperience, hopefully he’ll tone it down as time gos by.
