There has been a big buzz brewing in the MMA community ever since Dana White expressed interest in bringing back former Light Heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort to the UFC. White spoke about bringing back “The Phenom” as a possible challenger to Anderson Silva’s Middleweight crown.
Now in an interview with UOL Sports Belfort was asked about Dana White’s interest in a possible return fight against Anderson Silva.
Vitor was asked if he was surprised that White would want to put him up against his friend and fellow Brazilian Anderson Silva?
Belfort was also asked about Lyoto Machida’s success in the Octagon and his thoughts on him capturing the Light Heavyweight title.
“Lyoto is fantastic. A true artist. He can do a mixture of martial arts phenomenon, something that only it can be revealed today. He even managed to create a type of karate itself. I’m sure he will be champion of the UFC for a long time.”I can only imagine if Vitor defeats Jorge Santiago at Affliction “Trilogy” that he will be on his way over to the UFC right away. Lets be honest, he is not making it a secret that he wants to return and has stated those desires for a while now.
If Belfort does return to the Octagon many people feel he will be put into a fight with a top contender first then into a title shot against Anderson Silva. While nothing is set in stone as of yet, now we have another reason to watch Affliction “Trilogy” on August 1.
I am really rooting hard for Vitor to beat Santiago just cause I want to see him come back and get another shot WAR VITOR
I am old school so I hope to see the Vitor from when he was 20 walk in and bust some ass again but the sport grew up around him and he never did I’m just glad to see he is back and kicking ass if he was to beat Anderson I would cheer for him out of loyalty from when I was young
This Jorge must be a real can, cuz in his fights with Tito & Randy, Vitor just took the beatings & didn’t do a single thing to fight back.
If you think Sapp taking a 2 minute dive just to get paid is bad, try watching the Phenom take a beating for 3 to 5 rounds & not lift up even his arm in defense.
I don’t know why anyone would be interested in watching this guy fight, even BJ has more heart.
@Fujita, I think its sentimental value from Vitor being from the Old School. Everyone has a favorite fighter from the past thats not a championship type of fighter.
@Fujita, yeah we all know he’s not the best but he could KO anyone with one punch if given the right circumstances. I have been watching Vitor since I was in my mid 20′s when the UFC allowed groin kicks and eye gouges so I gotta root for the guy out of loyalty from the old school
@Fujita, totally agree with you here fighters like BJ and Vitor are so talented they have no idea what the fuck to do when they start losing cause of the fact that they dont know how to battle or work hard for anything
