Next Saturday night from the Mandalay Bay Events Center will be the big UFC 100 event from Las Vegas, Nevada where two championships will be decided and one of those bout is for the Welterweight title when Georges St-Pierre makes his third defense of the title against a very game Thiago Alves who has reeled 7 straight victories to get on the biggest stage of his young career and is ready to take on whatever the worlds best 170 pounder has to throw at him in the process.

MMAJunkie.com spoke with the ‘Pit Bull’ on what he plans to prepare for St-Pierre and says that it is going to take a lot more than just his skills on the feet to become the new UFC Welterweight champion.

“[St. Pierre] is dangerous everywhere,” Alves said. “You know you’ve got to be careful with him everywhere and not just with the takedowns. Takedowns are just another weapon that he has. He’s a dangerous striker, and he’s got great jiu-jitsu, so I’m prepared for everything.
“I’ve been training with the best wrestlers here in the country and being trained by the best strikers not in the country, but in the world. I’ve got the best jiu-jitsu guys with me. So I’m prepared. I’m prepared for everything that he’s got.”

Alves grew a lot since making his UFC debut back in October of 2005 where he took a loss to Spencer Fisher, but was a work in progress as he was a great striker with not so much Jiu Jitsu experience at American Top Team which is usually the opposite, but ever since his 2006 loss to Jon Fitch a change was needed in order for Alves to get where he is today and did just that. Especially, with his last 3 wins coming over the likes of Karo Parisyan, former Welterweight champion Matt Hughes and Josh Koscheck and now at UFC 100 Thiago will be looking to make some history with a win over St-Pierre.

“I came here to be the best fighter in the world. I came here to make history. I came to give a better life to my family in Brazil – and I came here to make history. Not just for me, but for my teammates, for everybody.”

This is going to be one hell of an exciting fight and it will be interesting to see just exactly how far Alves has come since his last UFC loss and how he may be able suceed over St-Pierre where others have failed.

I agree with Thiago this fight is not just Wresler vs striker this fight is all around great fighter vs a one dimensional striker. Thiago has not shown any kind of ground game and I don’t think his striking is much better then GSP’s dirty boxing that he used against BJ

GSP has a glass jaw, Thiago would knock him into another dimension
