This past Saturday on Independence day former NFL Quarterback Steve McNair was killed in a shooting and now it appears that StrikeForce Heavyweight prospect ‘Big’ Lavar Johnson (12-3) is now in a hospital fighting for his life after being shot down out in Bakersfield, California as Johnson and three others has been injured.

MMAjunkie.com reports that Johnson is under medical supervision at a hospital, but has not been determined as to what hospital Johnson is being treated at. Unfortunately a fifth person by the name of Anthony Mack Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime.

The Bakersfield Californian reported that Johnson was attending an Independence day celebration with his family with further news of three people walking by the party sometime after midnight and have now since have been named as potential suspects in the matter as well. One of the potential suspects was described as a black male in his late teens who fired off a semi-automatic handgun.

StrikeForce Director of Communications Mike Afromowitz has spoken to MMAJunkie on the situation that involves Lavar Johnson and still trying to figure out the rest of the details as to what has ensued.

“It’s such an unfortunate situation,” Afromowitz said. “Lavar is an amazing fighter, and he is also one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.”
“We’re not sure exactly what happened, but we know Lavar is fighting for his life right now in a local hospital,” Afromowitz said. “Obviously we’re hoping for the best for Lavar and his family.”

Johnson recently competed for StrikeForce at the promotion’s first ever Challengers Series cards on Showtime where he KO’d Carl Seumanutafa with a perfectly timed uppercut which lasted all of 18 seconds in the first round.
