Upon learning that James Irvin suffered yet another setback due to a recurring knee injury he will not be facing Wilson Gouveia (12-6) in his Middleweight debut at UFC 102 and is now reportedly expected to be replaced by Ed Herman (15-7) of Team Quest from the Portland, Oregon area where the UFC 102 event will be held at.
Sherdog.com reports that both Herman and Gouveia have agreed to the bout in principle according to sources close to the situation.
Herman was able to retain his spot on the UFC roster when he gained a very big unanimous decision victory over David Loiseau thia past April at UFC 97 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and was also scheduled to take on Aaron Simpson at UFC Fight Night 19 in September, but a win over Gouveia would help Herman get a winning streak going needed for him at this point.
As for Gouveia he lost his opportunity at becoming a serious contender to the UFC Middleweight title picture when he was picked apart by Nate Marquardt at UFC 95 back in the month of Fenruary out in London, England and must pick up a win over Herman in order to make another climb back up into serious contention once again. The loss to Marquardt was Gouveia’s first loss at 185 pounds after winning his first two.
We will keep you posted when the UFC has officially made the matchup an official one.
