Frank Mir knows his training partner Forrest Griffin is a big underdog coming into his bout at UFC 101: Declaration against Anderson Silva, but the former Heavyweight champion feels he is the perfect opponent to beat the Brazilian.

Cagewriter.com quoted Mir in a interview with KRKO’s Jeff Arron where he said he feels Forrest’s ugly fighting style is the key to beating Anderson Silva.

“The one thing that maybe could be a wrench in [Silva's] machine and his style, is that he is so great of a counter fighter. He’s so skilled with these movements. If I could pick a guy that could beat him, it’s a guy that could rough him up. Okay, fight ugly, fight mean, come forward. Are you gonna take a shot or two?”

Mir also said that Griffin can not afford to go blow for blow against the Middleweight champion, but feels his work ethic will pull him through the fight.

“Don’t ever take the pressure off this guy. You can’t play cat and mouse with him. I don’t think anyone in MMA could sit there and play kick for kick, punch for punch, and use footwork and head work and come out on the winning end against Anderson.”

“So, if I did have to pick a guy, I would pick Forrest. He has a high work ethic, [he's a] bigger guy, very aggressive, very strong and well-rounded.”

I have to agree with Mir that Forrest style of fighting can pose a threat to Silva, because you never know where he is coming from. As for the outcome, now that is another story.

We have heard on several occassions that a fighters style is “Made” to beat Anderson Silva and 9 times Silva walked out with a win.
