Rubber Match Between Aoki and Hansen Set for DREAM 11 | read this item

The third and possible final matchup between Joachim ‘Hellboy’ Hansen (19-7-1) and Shinya Aoki (21-4) will finally be taking place at DREAM 11 on October 6, from the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa, Japan. The rubber match between the two will be for the DREAM Lightweight championship which is currently held by Hansen who defeated Aoki back at DREAM 5.

DREAM officials have made the announcement on the title matchup with the winner to possibly defend the belt at the end of the year for the New Year’s Eve Dynamite card.

The first encounter between Hansen and Aoki took place at PRIDE Shockwave in 2006 where Aoki only needed less than two and a half minutes of the first round to win by submission via Gogoplata of all things, but at the Grand Prix Lightweight finals at DREAM 5 Hellboy would get his revenge as he only needed a little over four minutes of the first round to defeat Aoki by TKO with a variety of punches to become the promotion’s first ever Lightweight champion.

However, since Hansen was able to beat Aoki he has not competed since as he was supposed to face Gesias Calvancante at this past year’s Dynamite event, but had to withdraw due to not passing his pre-fight medicals, but it seemed more like Hansen was in witness protection.

Meanwhile Aoki has gone 4-1 since the loss to Hansen and was recently victorious at DREAM 10 last month in a unanimous decision over Vitor ‘Shaolin’ Ribeiro in a less than exciting matchup nonetheless.

DREAM 11 will also feature second round action of the “Super Hulk” tournament as well as the DREAM Middleweight title bout between Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller and Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza. DREAM 11 will air live in the US on HDNet.
