This past Saturday night at StrikeForce “Carano vs Cyborg” it was Gilbert Melendez who successfully defended the interim Lightweight title in a victory over Mitsuhiro Ishida where Melendez also got avenge the first loss of his career. However, sometime after the title bout Ishida and his camp claim that Melendez was “Greasing” before the fight and now that he has gotten word of the issue, Melendez had a response to the allegations.
In a recent talk with Sherdog.com Melendez says that he did not grease due to the fact that the California State Athletic Commission watched his every move the whole time.
But Melendez is not sweating the issue and says that the situation is “funny” and just plain “weak” at the same time.
The CSAC has informed Ishida’s camp that they have five days to file an official complaint, but still has not been filed at this time.
The last thing we need is another Georges St-Pierre vs BJ Penn “Vaseline-gate” scandal from earlier this year, but I don’t believe that Ishida and his camp will even make that complaint an official and will just accept that he was defeated fair and square.
