Last week it was reported that the originally scheduled WEC 43 fight card was moved from it’s September 2 date in Youngstown, Ohio due to an undisclosed injury to main event headliner, Benson Henderson who will be taking on Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone for the interim WEC Lightweight championship. Now the organization has found a new location and venue as the event will be taking place at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas on October 10 which will be live on VERSUS.

WEC officials made the official announcement on Friday night as the event heads back to the “Lone Star State” since holding WEC 39 back in March in the city of Corpus Christi.

“We are really excited to be bringing this fight card to San Antonio,” WEC General Manager Reed Harris said, adding that the market has long been attractive to WEC. “They say everything’s bigger in Texas. We plan on living up to that slogan by bringing some of the most prominent mixed martial artists in the world to San Antonio.
“The stars have aligned for this card,” Harris continued. “As we stated earlier this week, an injury to Henderson prevented him from being ready to fight on Sept. 2, but he’s fired up and ready for ‘Cowboy’ on Oct. 10. It’s the perfect scenario. We’ve got a world title fight on a Saturday night in one of the nation’s biggest cities. It doesn’t get much better than that.”

The same fight card that was scheduled for the Covelli Centre in Ohio will still be the same as tickets will go on sale to the general public on September 4, as for WEC newsletter subscribers they can go online at WEC.tv to get first dibs for tickets on September 3.

The AT&T Center is the home of the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA.
