It has been a while since newly crowned WVR Sengoku middleweight champion Jorge Santiago (21-7) been in action as the American Top Team standout picked up one of his biggest wins in his MMA career when he defeated former PRIDE Grand Prix champion Kazuo Misaki at Sengoku “No Ran 2009″ this past January. However, Santiago also talks about returning to the US and the UFC in hopes of facing Anderson Silva in order to become the best 185 pound fighter in the world with a win over ‘The Spider’.
In a new interview with our good friends over at BrasilCombate.com.br Santiago says that life has been great living in the United States with his wife and daughter, but also the team has around him over at ATT to make him a better fighter.
But Santiago admits that he is not quite ready to prove himself once again in the UFC after going 1-2 in his three Octagon appearances, but is happy fighting overseas in Japan.
Whenever Santiago decides to make a return to the UFC, he wants the opportunity to face middleweight champion Anderson Silva as he not only wants to beat him, but be the best in his weight class in the process.
Santiago is expected to be making his first defense of his title at Sengoku XI on November 7th, but does not have an opponent just yet as he has shot down rumors that he will not be facing Kevin Randleman or Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal who is a good friend of Santiago’s.
But, when he does decide to come back to the UFC Santiago will be a very different fighter as he has been successful in every promotion he has participated since, so expect that trend to continue.
