Last Saturday night at WEC 43 it was an opportunity for featherweight contender Wagnney Fabiano to get into number 1 contender’s status with a win over newcomer Mackens Semerzier, but the problem was that the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black-belt was defeated by submission no less and given his first loss within the promotion. Now the former IFL champion talks about making the drop to the 135 pound bantamweight division in favor of his teammate, Jose Aldo who will be facing Mike Brown for the featherweiht crown next month at WEC 44 to have no worries to face each other down the road.

In a new interview with Tatame.com Wagnney talks about what was the mistake that caused to lose the fight with Semerzier and was surprised how it all went down.

“My mistake was to fight… I was passing by problems, I didn’t want to say to don’t keep giving excuses, my mistake. He got me on the triangle and I don’t know when was the last time that someone got me on that position in Jiu-Jitsu and Sumission’s career, even in training. Nobody ever caught me on this position because I stand up fast. Because of a little injury, my rib cracked when I was going to stand up and I came back. My mistake was to fight, but he did his work and I congratulate him.”

Fabiano says that he appeared to have cracked some ribs, but the WEC wants him back in action once again, but he is also asked if he will have his next fight at featherweight or at the 135 pound bantamweight division which is getting just as deep within the promotion.

“Nowadays, yes, because Junior (José Aldo) will fight for the belt, he’s making some noise now, so they can’t promote two guys that won’t face each other, because of that they got Junior and putted me on the under card, and this is prejudicial to me, I have no sponsorship… I think it’s better to go down, because I think Junior will win. That kid is a phenomenon.”

The former IFL title holder believes his Nova Uniao teammate will finish the fight well before the fifth round of the WEC 44 main event and if that turns out to be the case and Aldo becomes the new champion then expect to see Fabiano make the expected drop to bantamweight.

Still Fabiano’s teammate will have his work cut out for him and will not be such a breeze as his first five WEC opponents as Brown has beaten some of the best fighters in the weight class which include Leonard Garcia and former champ Urijah Faber on two separate occasions, so until than Wagnney will have to wait and see how the fight goes down.
