Coming into UFC 100 Michael Bisping was considered to be by many fans as someone who did not back up his talk when fighting against top level competition. He lost to Rashad Evans at UFC 78 by unanimous decision and then dropped to the middleweight division for his next fight against Charles McCarthy at UFC 83. He destroyed McCarthy with vicious knees strikes and forced him to quit after injuring his arm. Bisping road a three fight win streak in the middleweight division into UFC 100 in a fight against fellow Ultimate Fighter coach Dan Henderson.
As we all know Bisping was knocked out by Henderson’s big overhand right after making the mistake of circling to his right against his corner’s advice. Bisping spoke about the knockout loss to Dan Henderson in a recent preview for UFC 105 and reflected about losing in the promotion’s biggest card to date.
“There’s no secret I got knocked out in my last fight and sitting there and getting all twitchy about it isn’t going to help. I lost the fight I got knocked out on the worlds biggest stage, a lot of people get caught because that’s the way mixed martial arts is.”A humbled Bisping said that he was embarrassed and feels that he lost respect, but intends to fix turn it around against middleweight veteran Denis Kang at UFC 105.
Bisping also went on to say that he was well prepared and ready for the fight, he also warned that Kang better be ready for him because he wanted to make him the first step on the road to redemption.
A few months ago fellow British fighter Dan Hardy insisted that the reason American fans did not like Bisping was because the US fans had not warmed up to the UK fighters. I responded by saying that statement could not be farther from the truth. The reason most US (and general) fans did not like Bisping was because of the fact that he had to back up his talk in his biggest fights.
At UFC 105, Bisping has a chance to step back into position against top competition with a win over a very dangerous Denis Kang. Make no mistake Kang at one point was a top ten fighter, but lately has been considered to be an underachiever who lacks the necessary concentration and heart to be a top fighter in the sport.
Both fighters seem like they have a lot to prove at UFC 105 and it will be interesting to see how Bisping bounces back in front of his countrymen behind him. It will also be interesting to see how Kang handles coming in to a crowd that will have hostility towards him.
North American fans hate Bisping for the same reason they hate Nick Osipczak and Paul Semtex Daley. Luckily, none of the UK fighters hate the North American fans or fighters.
