More injury news comes from the UFC as 23 year old heavyweight prospect Todd Duffee (5-0) has been ruled out for his UFC 107 match-up with the returning Paul Buentello (27-10) and may be replaced by the 6’11″ Stefan Struve or one time PRIDE veteran Mike Russow in the American Top Team standout’s absence.
Duffee who finished off Tim Hague in just 7 seconds of his debut at UFC 102 is devastated at not being able to fight on December 12 tells Sherdog.com that is was hard for him to withdraw from the card.
“(Withdrawing) was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make,” said Duffee, who would not disclose the nature of his injury.
With that said the list of possible replacements for Duffee include Stefan Struve (18-3) who recently defeated Octagon newcomer Chase Gormley late last month at UFC 104 and Denis Stojnic at UFC 99 this past June after being knocked out in his debut at UFC 95 to Junior Dos Santos in February.
The other possible replacement is Mike Russow (12-1) who made his Octagon debut at UFC 102 in late August where he picked up a unanimous decision victory over Justin McCully and has only one loss in his MMA career coming to Sergei Kharitonov at PRIDE 33 in February of 2007.
Buentello will be making his UFC return for the first time in four years and has gone 12-2 in that span with his only losses coming in title fights to the likes of Andrei Arlovski while in the UFC and to current StrikeForce champion Alistair Overeem.
We will keep you updated as to who will be stepping in for the UFC record setter as soon as further details have developed on this breaking story.
