It appears that the Ultimate Fighting Championship is already turning the wheels to stack up the UFC 110 card in their first ever event in Sydney, Australia as middleweight contenders Nate Marquardt (29-8-2) will be facing off against Chael Sonnen (24-10-1) in what could potentially be a title eliminator bout with the winner getting the next shot at the current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
Sportsnet.ca reports that multiple sources have informed them that both fighters have verbally agreed to the contest and are now just waiting on bout agreements to sign off and make the fight an official one for the February 21st event.
Following a UFC 73 defeat at the hands of Anderson Silva by way of first round TKO, Nate Marquardt has opened his striking abilities to his full potential and has won 3 of his last 4 inside the Octagon with devastating finishes over the likes of Martin Kampmann, Wilson Gouveia and most recently a 21 second KO of Demian Maia at UFC 102 this past August and a win of Sonnen will give ‘The Great’ the title shot he deserves.
Chael Sonnen on the other hand has returned to the UFC after his recent stint with the WEC and after losing in his Octagon return to Demian Maia this past February, Sonnen was able to bounce back with two straight victories over Dan Miller at UFC 98 in May and a very impressive win over fellow middleweight contender Yushin Okami last month at UFC 104 which gave the organization another interesting opponent in the middleweight division now that Sonnen is taking advantage of the situation.UFC 110 from the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia has only one bout on the card which is official as former PRIDE champion Wanderlei ‘The Axe Murderer’ Silva makes his middleweight debut against Japanese superstar Yoshihiro Akiyama in what looks to be the main event of the evening.

I really wanted to see Henderson fight him, but I can live with this fight and Sonnen actually called out Nate after UFC 104.
