This past Saturday night on CBS the sport of Mixed Martial Arts made it’s return to national television and the StrikeForce main event match-up between Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers netted a ratings high of 5.64 million viewers in the 11:00 to 11:15 time slot.
The announcement was made in a press release by CBS officials earlier today as the event drew in an average audience of 4.04 million viewers overall as the event was ranked in 9th place as the most watched events on national tv.
The StrikeForce “Fedor vs Rogers” card got the key demographics in adult males as the ages in men 18-34 drew a 3.1, men 18-49 got a rating of 3.3 and men ages 25-54 got a rating of 3.5 overall as the event was ranked third behind the EliteXC “HEAT” card and of course the inaugural MMA event on the network which was EliteXC “Primetime” which had former poster boy Kimbo Slice taking on James Thompson in the main event that brought in a record high 7.28 million viewers in the month of May, 2008.
The StrikeForce event might have made more in the ratings department if it were not for the UFC using their usual counter-programming tactics in which they also had a two hour special with “UFC Main Events” on Spike which was headlined by the UFC 102 main event heavyweight battle between Randy Couture and Antonio ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira which had already went down in late August.
No word has been mentioned by CBS as to holding yet another StrikeForce event on the network, but with strong ratings it is more likely that they will be coming back in 2010.
