Several of our viewers were upset over UFC commentator Joe Rogan’s comments this past weekend on Twitter that Brett Rogers “Exposed” Fedor  in their fight this past weekend on CBS. Several of our fans accused Rogan of being biased because he works for the UFC and someone even accused him of letting Dana White write on his Twitter account.

Now in a response to fans outrage Joe Rogan wrote a blog on MixedMartialArts.com where he attempted to clarify his comments on Twitter. Rogan said that he felt that if Rogers was easily able to reverse Fedor’s submission attempts after most observers felt he would not be able to defend against his superior grappling.

Brett Rogers pounds Fedor“What was going through my mind after the fight before I wrote that tweet, was that I was surprised that Rogers was able to easily reverse Fedor, despite the fact that he’s not a very experienced grappler. The conventional wisdom was that if Fedor could get the fight to the ground he would be able to finish it quickly, but obviously that wasn’t the case.”

Rogan also went on to say that he wondered if UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar would have finished Fedor if he had the same side mount position.

“Rogers wasn’t able to hold Fedor down and only landed a few clean shots, but I couldn’t help wonder what Lesnar would have been able to do with that position.”
“At heavyweight when guys like Lesnar or Rogers get up as big as 265 at the weigh in and maybe 20lbs over that during fight time I really wonder if these gigantic super athletic guys with better grappling like Brock might be able to exploit that size advantage where Rogers couldn’t.”

Rogan also went on to say that he is a big fan of Fedor and always has been, but saying there are holes in his game is not a insult just a observation.

06_fedor_hitting_bag“I’ve always been, and continue to be a huge fan of Fedor. I love his style, I love his no frills approach to training, and I love his emotionless approach to combat.  Objectively though, I think there are some exploitable holes in his striking that we saw a little in the Arlovski fight, and the size disadvantage he has against the best big men might be a big problem if they were to meet as well. He’s not perfect, but he sure is fun as hell to watch.”

Rogan also said that if Fedor was ever to come to the UFC he would rather see him fight Anderson Silva not Brock Lesnar, because he is closer to his weight naturally.

“Really I would love to see Fedor fight anyone in the UFC, but if I had my choice I would want to see him fight Anderson over Brock. I think they are much closer in weight, and I think it could be an incredible fight.”

He also went on to respond to criticism from fans that he was a UFC “Puppet” in any way and said that he was never told to change his opinion in any way. Rogan also defended his right to have his own opinion on any fight or fighters.

“The UFC pays me, and it’s an honor to work for them, but I am and always will be a fan of all mixed martial arts. I watch it all, including all the HDNET fights, K-1, boxing, etc. I have never been told to alter my opinions, and if it comes out of my mouth whether you agree with it or not, it’s my opinion and not the talking points of my employers. There was a lot of talk after my twitter post, and I just wanted to clear things up as much as possible.”

At the end of the post Rogan also brought up the point that he is limited on Twitter to only 140 characters which leaves a lot to be said when attemting to talk about a topic fluidly.

What is your take on Joe Rogan’s latest post?

Yeah that was me who said that one it sounded like something that Dana would say.

Rogan should have clarified what he meant, but he should know that he is a UFC employee and when he bashes the competition he is going to get backlash

Okay , If Brock can get feodor to the ground before he gets knocked the hell out. Brock’s standup sucks period. Fedor would destroy him standing, but to think that you can just use your size and hold someone like fedor on the ground for a long period of time is just plain dumb. You will be submitted or just stood up for not doing much on the ground. If fedor has holes in his game, Brock has crater size holes in his.

As I have stated elsewhere, Fedor had no problem with Rogers’ size; he threw the big man down with no problem. It was the strength that gave Fedor problems, and he found a way to deal with it. What happened when Rogers had Fedor down and was pummelling him? Fedor went for a sub which forced Rogers to give up position. I don’t think Brock could hold Fedor down either. Same thing would happen. Fedor would go for something that would force Brock to give up position. Or maybe Brock would be too cocky and stay there, thus getting subbed. Fedor vs Anderson Silva? Umm…

As for Rogan, I don’t care what he claims – he has to censor himself at least a little bit. Look at his meglomaniacal (is that a word?) employer.
