Update: So much for Shane Carwin saving the day at UFC 108 in a fight against Cain Velasquez. Shane Carwin just confirmed on his Twitter account that he can not fight on the card after rehabbing a prior knee injury that he has been fighting through.

With the heavyweight title picture unclear due to Brock Lesnar’s continuing illness and unforeseen return to the Octagon, the UFC will need to act as soon as possible to salvage the January 2, 2010 card. They will also need to figure out what to do with the heavyweight title as well.

There is one way to kill those two birds with one stone and the solution would be a Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez interim heavyweight title fight at UFC 108. Don’t get it confused, I hate interim titles. But in this case it seems like it may be necessary for the heavyweight division.

Brock Lesnar will hopefully come back in 2010 as the heavyweight champion, but if he does not the UFC will be able to take the interim label off the belt for the winner of the fight.

I see this as a solution and it gives the fans what they want for the UFC 108 main event; a title defensed and a great fight. This is just my opinion, but I would love to see what you guys think.
