Aldo punches Brown

Jose Aldo proved those who predicted the older and more experienced Mike Brown would have a advantage wrong by capturing the WEC featherweight title. Aldo defended Brown’s takedowns with success and did not let the fight go to the ground until he finished the fight.

The challenger and champion were close in the first round, but Aldo was showing signs that he was more powerful then Brown in brief flashes. At the 2:45 mark of the round he landed a punch, kick and flying knee combo, which forced Brown to looking for a single leg takedown. Brown did not succeed and then attempted to tie Aldo up against the fence after being hit with the punch, knee and kick combination. Brown also began to land knees while against the fence in an attempt to slow him down.

The fighters separated from the cage and Brown charged in to throw a punch, but Aldo moved his head and landed a kick to the top of Brown’s left leg to stop him dead in his tracks. Aldo then followed the kick up with a short flying knee to the body to once again warn Brown of his power. The round closed and the fighters were done with the “Feel out” process of the fight.

In the opening minute of the second round Aldo landed a spinning back kick to Brown’s ribs which made him wince for a brief moment, he then followed up with a few punches which stunned the champion.

Noticing he was in trouble Brown attempted to takedown Aldo, but was stuffed and put on his back. Brown then attempted to land a left hook lost his footing and Aldo pounced and took his guard and eventually transitioned to his back.

Aldo smelled blood and then finished the flattened Brown who could not defend himself after being hit with almost 30 uncontested punches. Referee Steve Mazagatti stepped in to stop the fight at one minute and twenty seconds of the second round.

Jose Aldo is the new WEC Featherweight champion and looks like he will be holding on to it for a long time. He is powerful and he is fast, the winner of the Urijah Faber vs Rafael Assuncao fight at WEC 46 will not have a easy title shot.

with fighters dropping like flys in different events it makes sense for the ufc to soak up wec and create more titles for viewers plus the 145s and under deserve the the attention the ufc will get them. ps brown never looked that good to me he just managed to win fights he looked uncomfortable and out of his league from the start
