Josh Koscheck tells MMAWeekly.com that while his opponent at UFC 106 Anthony Johnson is bigger in height and weight, it may play into his benefit. Koscheck believes that Johnson’s weight cut from 190 plus pounds will effect his cardio in their fight.
“I’ve been in that situation before where I’ve had to cut a lot of weight,” said Koscheck. “In your training camp you focus more on the weight cut. More on the ‘oh, I’ve gotta make weight,’ than actual training and focusing on the important things: your cardio and your sparring.”
“He’s focused on other things,” he said. “I think that’s going to play a big factor in this game.”
We all know that cutting too much weight can effect any fighter who does not keep their size down before a fight. Johnson came into his last fight against Yoshiyuki Yoshida at 179 pounds for a 171 pound limit, does Koscheck have a valid argument questioning his cardio?
