We found out yesterday that Mauricio Shogun Rua will have to wait 6 months before he is able to get his rematch against Lyoto Machida for the light heavyweight. Most fans felt like the May 1, 2010 date was too long for Shogun to wait until he fights again, but it appears the former PRIDE Grand Prix winner is content with waiting for Machida to return.

In a interview with Portal De Lutas via GracieMag.com Mauricio Shogun Rua said he is not motivated by his performance in his fight against Machida at UFC 104. He is motivated by his dream of becoming the light heavyweight champion.

ufcbelt[1]“No, I don’t want to face him because I felt I won. I want to fight Lyoto because it’s for the title, and that is my dream. What I want most is that belt and, therefore, I want to fight Lyoto again.

Shogun also confirmed that he will wait for Machida to return to action on May 1, and his only concern is staying in shape.

“I’m never going to worry about that. I leave the details of my fight and opponent in the hands of my manager. My only concern is training. But of course I want to fight Lyoto as soon as possible,” he said in finishing.

May 1, really is a long time to wait, but I suppose it is worth it for Machida after coming so close at UFC 104. We have not heard from Machida since the fight, but hopefully he will give us a injury update soon.
