A pivotal middleweight bout between top contender Nate Marquardt (29-8-2) and Chael Sonnen (24-10-1) was lead to be believed that it would be taking place at the UFC 110 event in Australia, but things have changed as their fight will be in the U.S. for UFC 109 in Las Vegas, Nevada instead.

According to MMAJunkie.com sources close to the event say the fight has been scheduled, but bout agreements have not been finalized as of yet.

Nate Marquardt has gone 4-1 since losing in his first UFC title shot against Anderson Silva back at UFC 73 in July of 2007 with 3 of those fights ending via the T/KO variety over the likes of Martin Kampmann, Wilson Gouveia and most recently to Demian Maia at UFC 102 in August and is on the brink of earning another shot at the middleweight championship, but will need to get by the Team Quest fighter in Sonnen to get there.

Meanwhile Chael Sonnen since coming back to the UFC back in February from the WEC was submitted by Demian Maia at UFC 95, but has since bounced back with impressive unanimous decision victories over Dan Miller at UFC 98 in May and stopping longtime middleweight contender Yushin Okami last month at UFC 104 and a win over Marquardt could help Sonnen leap frog over ‘The Great’ to get a title shot of his own.

The UFC 109 event is just a few weeks before the February 21, UFC 110 card in Australia which will be apart of Super Bowl weekend on February 6, from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas which will also be live on pay-per-view.
