It looks like the UFC wants to book a Shane Carwin vs Cain Velasquez fight for UFC 110 in Australia, but scheduling conflicts could delay the potential bout to later in the year. As Shane Carwin has said several times in his previous blog post he and his wife Lani are expecting the birth of a child on February 11, 2010. UFC 110 is scheduled for February 21, and is within the two week time period of his wife’s due date. Anyone who has kids knows when you are expecting a child, the birth can happen two weeks before or after the due date.
MMAJunkie.com confirmed with Carwin’s manager Jason Genet and another source that the fight is in the works, but has not been booked at the moment.
“There’s been talk of it, and we’re working on it,” Jason Genet, Carwin’s manager, told MMAjunkie.com. “They’re just trying to firm up some dates, but Shane and his wife are expecting a child in February, and we’re trying to work around that.” Genet also stated that if a interim heavyweight title fight does happen it would be disappointing to see the UFC book the bout without Carwin being one of the challengers.
Genet also stated that Carwin’s wife is considered a “High risk” pregnancy, but would not go into details which is also a factor. This could be due to something as small as Carwin’s wife’s age, so please do not speculate anything negative.
We hope that everything can be worked out with Carwin and the UFC, but we also understand the importance of Shane being there for the birth of his child.
We will keep you up to date as soon as we find any new information on this potential interim heavyweight title fight.
