Earlier tonight from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada was the long awaited rematch between former light heavyweight champions Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin as many people want to know how the ‘Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ does after an 18 month lay-off due to extensive back surgery and to also see how Forrest will respond after being decimated in his last fight to middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 101 this past August.

In round one, Griffin does his best to keep Ortiz away by throwing punching combinations to score points, but Tito gets his trademark double leg takedown in as he gets Forrest on his back to work his efficient ground and pound. Still, Griffin improves his defense as he gets back to his feet with less than minimal damage to get back to working on his feet going into the second round.

Round two has Ortiz land another takedown as Forrest tried to land a leg kick. Tito begins to reign down some hard elbows strikes from top position as he opens up Griffin on the side of his head, but Forrest sweeps back into a much better position to get on top to try and land some punches before the sound of the bell for the round.

As the final round starts out, Griffin begins to stay busy once again by landing 1-2 punch combos with a head kick as Tito begins to show signs of wearing down, but still tries to keep up the pace by attempting to shoot for a takedown and throw punches of his own, but to no avail as Forrest stuffs the takedowns and continues to connect with his striking combinations to end the fight and leave it to the judges decision as the bout is a split decision.

The judges score the bout 29-28 for Ortiz, 30-27 for Griffin and 29-28 for the winner Forrest Griffin who draws even with Ortiz at one fight a piece as Tito won the initial encounter at UFC 59 in April of 2006.

After the win both fighters agree to settle it in a rubber match out of respect for one another, but tonight was Forrest Griffin’s night to shine once again.
