UFC 106 “Ortiz vs Griffin 2″ will go down tonight starting at 9:00 pm with the live preliminary card on Spike, at 10:00 pm eastern the pay-per-view portion of the event will begin and URDirt.com will have you covered for both.

Unaired preliminary fight

106-Uno-Camoes

Fabricio Camoes would have defeated PRIDE,  DREAM and UFC veteran Caol Uno on the judges score cards 29-28 by split decision, but a illegal upkick in the second round caused him to lose a point. The deduction caused the fight to be scored a very rare draw.

Official decision: Majority draw, one judge gave the fight to Uno (29-27), but two of the other judges scored the fight 28-28.

SPIKE Preliminary card
Round 1:
106-Grove-Rosholt

Round 1:

  • Grove and Rosholt do not exchange strikes, the begin to measure each other for the first 30 seconds.
  • Rosholt shoots in for a single against the cage around :40 seconds into the round and transitions it into a scoop slam.
  • Rosholt slams Grove again after he stands back up at the 4:00 minute mark.
  • Grove puts Rosholt on his back after a struggle against the cage around the 3:30 mark.
  • Rosholt wall walks and gets back to his feet and hits Grove with a short hook and a flying knee.
  • Rosholt again gets top position on Grove and looks to move into full mount.
  • Rosholt can not get into full mount and tries to use a arm triangle, but Grove escapes.
  • Rosholt is caught in a triangle after attempting to posture up and taps out with one minute left to go in the round.

Official result: Kendall Grove wins by submission (Arm Triangle), Round 1 (3:59 seconds)

106-Georges-Dent

Round 1:

  • George and Jason exchange in the center of the cage and both are landing clean strikes.
  • George continues to try and land head kicks and Jason lands clean counters to George’s body.
  • At the 2:30 second mark George lands the takedown and begins to punish Dent.
  • Dent in is big trouble as George taks full mount with about :50 seconds to go in the round.
  • George lands big shots to Dent’s ears and face at will, it looks like it could be over.
  • Dent is feisty and will not give up he survives the 1st round, barely.

Round 2

  • More of the same as George gets top position after Dent attempts to land a body kick that is caught.
  • George fights for position on the ground and looks to pass, but Dent is putting up a fight and they end up in a “69″ (North South) and Dent is trying to beat him off.
  • George finally gets full mount and begins to punish Dent and the fighters transition.
  • George takes advantage and gets Dent in a arm crush that looks painful.
  • Dent is fighting for his life and George finally lands the armbar for the win.

Official decision: George Sotiropoulos wins by submission (Armbar), Round 2 (4:36)

106-Saunders-Davis

Round 1:

  • Saunders right away attempts to throw a head kick and set the pace of the fight.
  • Around 1 minute and 30 seconds in Saunders begins to go to town on Davis with knees
  • Davis wants none of it and grabs underhooks and drives Saunders to the cage, but is unable to make headway as Saunders is just too big for him to control.
  • The fighters exchange against the cage and Saunders is sneaking his knees to Davis head, while Davis attempts to lands small punches to Saunders head.
  • The fighters separate and continue to exchange, but Saunders grabs Davis head and lands three straight knees and puts Davis to sleep.

Official decision: Ben Saunders wins by KO (knees), Round 1 (3:24)

106-larson-foster

Round 1:

  • Crazy, crazy round as Larson starts off by taking down Foster and taking control for the first two minutes of the fight.
  • Larson makes one mistake in transition looking for a Kimura and it cost him position as Foster takes control on top.
  • Foster works Larson from Side mounth to full mount and lands punches from the top.
  • Here is where the fight gets crazy
  • During a scramble Foster attempts to land a big punch from the top while standing and coming forward.
  • Larson pushes off and Foster goes no where but down.
  • Larson attempts to land a up kick as Foster begins to stand, but his hands and knees are on the ground.
  • Yves Lavigne stops the fight with a timeout and has the Dr. look at Foster’s eye.
  • The Dr. clears Foster to fight and they restart in the center of the Octagon.
  • Yves Lavigne takes a point from Larson.
  • Larson then gets a rushing Foster in a standing guillotine, but is unable to submit him.
  • Foster knowing he is about to catch a knee to his head puts his hand on the ground.
  • Larson lands the knee to his head and loses another point.
  • Larson lost the round 10 to 7.

Round 2:

  • Brian Foster dominates the standup and counter punches Larson every time he attempts to land a jab.
  • Foster and Larson pace around the cage for a minute but there is litte action.
  • Foster then picks up the pace and lands a spinning back kick and back fist combo on Larson.
  • Larson attempts to close the distance on Foster, but gets slammed dead on his back.
  • Foster lands big punches from the top and is dominating the veteran.
  • Foster grabs Larson’s leg pulls it and lands a homerun punch.
  • Larson scrambles, but Foster lands two big punches to the side of his head.
  • Yves Lavigne steps in while Larson is tapping out.

Official result: Brian Foster wins by TKO (punches), Round 2 (3:25)

Main Card

106-Amir-NYBA

Round 1:

  • Baroni starts throwing vicious punches in the clinch on Sadollah
  • Still in the clinch, Baroni lands punches to the face while Sadollah lands knees to the body
  • Following the break, both fighters get back in the  clinch as Baroni continues to land some solid punches on Sadollah as he also works to get positioning as Sadollah continues to keep up with the ‘NYBA’
  • Getting good positioning Baroni lands the takedown on Sadollah
  • Sadollah trying to scramble for a submission, Baroni outmuscles him to get in some ground and pound as Baroni then lets Sadollah up
  • Baroni gets back in the clinch as he continues to work in some dirty boxing with Sadollah still trying to land the knees to his advantage
  • Baroni backs Sadollah into a corner going for the takedown, but Sadollah lands a knee in the clinch to end the round

Round 2:

  • In the first exchange, Baroni lands a punch while Sadollah lands a kick to get the advantage back in the clinch up against the fence
  • Baroni lands a solid punch in on Sadollah as Sadollah counters with a superman punch
  • Back in the clinch, Sadollah breaks off to get in a solid leg kick as Baroni gets in with a punch to get back in the clinch
  • Sadollah using the muay thai plumb gets in some solid knee strikes to get the dominant position up against the fence
  • Baroni starting to get winded as Sadollah is getting in some target practice with some front kicks
  • Back in the tie-up again, Baroni with his hands down throws a punch only to get countered with a few kicks to the leg by Sadollah
  • Baroni begins to wear down, Sadollah appears to be getting the upper hand in the fight going into round 3

Round 3:

  • Baroni starts with a punch to Sadollah’s chin as Sadollah counters with a leg kick
  • Sadollah going to work on Baroni’s shin as he mercilessly lands more leg kicks and begins to open up on the ‘NYBA’
  • Baroni with his hands down, Sadollah is tiring out the veteran with elbows in the clinch opening a cut on the top of Baroni’s head
  • Baroni continues to throw the hands but has no zip on them as Sadollah is having his way using his muay thai to perfection
  • Baroni is just taking punishment despite having a lot of heart, but Sadollah is working for the finish
  • Sadollah is just picking Baroni apart waiting for the bell to sound off

Official result: Amir Sadollah defeats Phil Baroni by Unanimous decision in 5:00 of Rd.3

106-Cane-Nog

Round 1:

  • Cane starts out with a leg kick as both fighters size each other up
  • Nogueira lands a leg kick of his own
  • Nogueira lands a few swift straight lefts on Cane
  • Nogueira hurts Cane with another solid left as Cane begins to run away
  • Nogueira lands a solid right hook on Cane to drop him to the ground then to finish him off as referee Steve Mazzagatti stops the fight

Official result: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira defeats Luiz Cane by TKO (Punches) at 1:56 of Rd.1

106-Paulo-Volkman

Round 1:

  • Thiago looking to size up Volkmann tries to get in by throwing in some jabs inside
  • Volkmann gets Thiago up in the fence to work his way for positioning, but Thiago gets him down to the ground
  • Volkmann gets back up to his feet as both fighters continue to work for positioning, but Thiago gets Volkmann down again this time in full mount
  • Volkmann postures up trying to get back up to his feet
  • Thiago keeps Volkmann down using some elbow strikes, but Volkmann resilient gets back to his feet
  • Thiago lands a leg kick after the break to get back into the clinch for positioning
  • Both men exchange knees in the clinch as Thiago lands an elbow after a brief exchange
  • Thiago lands a swift 3 piece combo dropping Volkmann to the mat, but was saved by the bell as Volkmann appeared to be okay

Round 2:

  • Both men look to size each other up again, Thiago lands a leg trip to knock Volkmann down, but gets right back up
  • Volkmann responds with a takedown as he has Thiago’s back looking to work a submission
  • Thiago scrambles to get back to his feet as both fighters once again are in a dead heat up against the cage
  • Volkmann gaining confidence is landing some punches up against the cage on Thiago
  • Thiago lands a muay thai knee in an exchange as Volkmann gets Thaigo down again looking to do some damage
  • Thiago draws a reverse on the ground to get top position on Volkmann
  • Thiago attempts to pass the guard as Volkmann looks to weather the storm for the ref to stand the fight up
  • Thiago lands a vicious shot on Volkmann to get into side control to end the round

Round 3:

  • Both fighters looking to exchange on the feet for a while, but Thiago drops Volkmann with a punch
  • Volkmann looks to work a triangle on Thiago as he tries to get a hold on the Brazilian
  • Volkmann gets out of trouble to get on top position as Thiago works his way back up to his feet
  • Volkmann shoots for a takedown after the break, but misses as Thiago looks to get back in top position on the ground
  • Volkmann gets back in top position as Thiago tries to bait Volkmann into a bad spot
  • Volkmann gets Thiago in a crucifix on the ground as he tries to land some shots to the head of Thiago
  • Thiago gets out of harm’s way to get to his feet as Volkmann stays on the ground
  • Volkmann gets a D’Arce choke on Thiago off his back
  • Thiago escapes as he batters Volkmann to get back into a dominant position to end the fight at the bell

Round 1:

  • Both fighters exchange leg kicks
  • Koscheck lands a left hook on Johnson
  • Koschecks lands an overhand right as Johnson tries to counter
  • Johnson lands inside leg kick
  • Johnson lands a short left to momentarily drop Koscheck
  • Johnson has Koscheck down on the ground trying to work a dominant position
  • Johnson knees a downed Koscheck as referee Mario Yamasaki deducts a point to Johnson for the illegal hit
  • Koscheck still squinting his left eye referee Yamasaki calls in a doctor
  • Fight goes on
  • Johnson looks to score with a head kick as he does score with a leg kick instead
  • Koscheck shoots for the takedown, but Johnson sprawls
  • Still, Koschecks finishes to get the takedown as he tries to get his hooks in on Johnson
  • Koscheck stays all over Johnson to finish out the round

Round 2:

  • Johnson looking for a rhythm tries to throw in some jabs on Koscheck
  • Johnson now receives eye poke from Koscheck, but is okay after short stoppage
  • Koscheck lands a left head kick, but in an exchange Koscheck pokes Johnson in the eye again
  • Johnson shakes it off as fight continues again
  • Johnson works a head kick again as Johnson opens with a solid left hook trying to get some momentum
  • Koscheck lands another takedown trying to get full mount landing some elbows
  • Johnson in half guard tries to ward off Koscheck from getting full mount
  • Koscheck working in some more elbows opens up the head of Johnson
  • Koscheck looks to work an arm triangle choke on Johnson
  • Johnson gives up his back as he tries to get the rear naked choke
  • Koscheck gets in the rear naked choke to submit Johnson for the victory

Main event

Round 1:

  • Griffin lands a few shots in exchange with Tito
  • Forrest stays busy as he keeps Ortiz away
  • Forrest lands leg kick as Tito counters with a straight right and shoots to score the takedown
  • Ortiz looks to work his ground and pound
  • Griffin baits Ortiz with a kimura to get top position
  • Both fighters back on their feet as Tito looks to work the body, but Forrest counters with knees
  • After the break Forrest stays bust working his standup with kicks
  • Griffin lands a nice 1-2 on Tito as he tries to counter
  • Griffin continuing to look the busier fighter works his hands and feet to finish off the round in a tie up

Round 2:

  • Tito throws an overhand but is blocked
  • Forrest throws a leg kick only to get taken down by Ortiz
  • Forrest holds Tito close as Ortiz tries to work his ground and pound again
  • Griffin finds his way back to his feet as he is free looking to set up
  • Griffin stuffs a takedown of Ortiz as Forrest lands front kick to knock Tito’s mouthpiece off
  • Tito shoots for a double leg as Forrest immediately looks to hold Tito for a break-up
  • Tito lands an elbow to Forrest’s head as he tries to get better positioning
  • Ortiz begins to reign elbows on Griffin, but gets swept for his troubles
  • Forrest ends the round in top position as he tries to score points with punches to finish the round

Round 3:

  • Forrest throws a 1-2 hit on Tito
  • Forrest lands a straight left inside
  • Griffin staying busy continues to throw punches and kicks as Tito looks to work his way into another takedown
  • Forrest lands a body shot followed by a leg kick on Tito
  • Tito shoots for a takedown as Forrest stuffs it and lands a kick to the leg once again
  • Griffin picking Tito apart with leg kicks and 1-2 combos
  • Forrest lands head kick with a straight right hand as Tito looks tired
  • Tito begins to throw some shots, but Forrest stays busy throwing more punches and kicks to throw Tito off
  • Ortiz lands body kick on Forrest
  • Forrest continues to throw combinations on Tito as the bell sounds

    I hope Tito loses. That massive head is deluded as hell. He makes excuses for his losses and thinks he’s the greatest fighter that ever lived because he had 5 defenses against not so great opposition. If that guy was chocolate he’d eat himself. Chuck proved just how soft Tito and his heart is. Machida totally outclassed him too. He’s good in that he brings in fans because people love to hate him because of his big mouth. But as far as a fighter he ain’t that good.
