WEC 46 official

Not too long ago former Ultimate Fighter season 8 lightweight contestant George Roop (10-5) was dropped by the UFC following a submission loss to George Sotiropoulos at UFC 101 this past August and losing two of three fights inside the Octagon leading to his release from the promotion, but following a win in a recent smaller promotion, Roop is back with the UFC’s little brother promotion in the WEC as he comes to the organization as a bantamweight making his debut at WEC 46 in January of 2010 against Jesse Moreng (9-1).

According to MMAJunkie.com the former TUF alum will be making the drop to 135 pounds and has learned of his WEC 46 match-up in the process.

Roop had a split decision win over David Kaplan at UFC 98 this past May in his only Octagon victory, but lost to Sotiropoulos and fellow TUF 8 contestant Shane Nelson, but recently picked up a unanimous decision triumph over Matt Dell at a Rage in the Cage event last weekend in order to find himself back with the WEC.

Meanwhile Jesse Moreng has been out of action since a loss to Micah Miller back in March of 2007 as he was sidelined with injuries throughout the majority of 2008, but came back this past April in a smaller promotion to pick up a unanimous decision win over Brandon Miller to also get back within the WEC organization as well.

WEC 46 will feature a lightweight championship bout with current title holder Jamie Varner coming back off numerous injuries to defend his belt against interim lightweight champ Ben Henderson in the main event with former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber also returning to action to take on Raphael Assuncao in the card’s co-main event.
