WEC interim lightweight champion Ben Henderson is fast, agile and a very good wrestler. So is UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn’s next opponent; Diego Sanchez. So BJ and Ben are training together in the RVCA training facility down in Costa Mesa, California.
On his personal website SmoothBen.com, Henderson spoke about the experience training with Penn, and his attempt take the down the 155 pound champion.
“So day one just ended down here in costa Mesa, CA…went pretty well, right when we got to the RVCA facility jumped right in and did four mma rounds with BJ, so I found out right away what I personally wanted to know, which is, ‘is BJ really that hard to take-down???’, the answer is without a doubt, yes he is…like I said we did 4 rounds, I was doing my best Diego sanchez impression, hehe, but I didn’t get killed nearly as bad as I thought I was going to, so that’s a big plus, I am a little out of shape and going four was pretty good I thought on my part, especially considering the competition doesn’t get much tougher in the whole world.”
If you have not seen Henderson fight in the past, you are missing out on one of the sports best upcoming stars. If you did not see his fight against Donald Cerrone at WEC 44, you just missed out on one of the best fights of the year and perhaps the best fight in the promotions history.
Henderson has relentless takedowns and his speed is amazing, while he is not Diego Sanchez he will be a suitable training partner for BJ Penn.
