Frankie Edgar was supposed to fight Kurt Pellegrino at The Ultimate Fighter season 10 finale, but a injury to his fellow New Jersey native forced him off the card and out of their fight. Edgar’s replacement Matt Veach is 11-0 and virtually unknown, which makes him hard to scout for strengths and weaknesses.

While Edgar is the favorite coming into their fight, the “Answer” tells MMAWeekly.com that he is not taking this fight for granted and knows that if he sleeps on Veach, he can get put to sleep in their fight.

“I was once myself a guy coming into the UFC with no name and I took advantage of that,” he said. “I’m sure he’s going to be looking to take advantage of that. This is part of the game. If you want to be the best, you’ve got to be able to take any fight and win. He could be a totally different fighter that night,” said Edgar.
“I’ve got to try to build my strengths and worry about getting better every day. As far as knowing the rest of his abilities, I guess I’ll find out that night.”

Frankie Edgar is know in the point of his career that he can not lose fights to up and coming fighters by a bad gameplan, bad preparation or overlooking his opponent. Edgar is looking to move into title contention and a win over Veach is going to put him on top of the division, especially after beating Sean Sherk at UFC 98 by decision.

Edgar has now defeated Jim Miller (before the UFC) Tyson Griffin, Spencer Fisher, Hermes Franca and Sean Sherk. His lone loss came to Gray Maynard at Fight Night 13 by unanimous decision.

Since his loss to Maynard his takedown defense looks better and his hands have become some of the fastest in the division. Two problem places he suffered against Maynard, who is still undefeated in the UFC.

Edgar will need to extend his current win streak to 3 fights with a win over Veach to stay in contention in the crowded 155  pound division.
