Rogerio KO's Cane

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira had a impressive debut at UFC 106, knocking out fellow Brazilian Luis Cane in the first round of their fight. Nogueira will now move on to another quality opponent, so why not former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin?

In a interview with GracieMag.com, Rogerio expressed interest in a possible fight with Forrest Griffin in the near future.

UFC 106 Forrest Tito“It would be a good fight. Forrest is an aggressive guy who fights on his feet, and I like that. He also has excellent Jiu-Jitsu and absurd wind. It would be a really good fight.”

Nogueira also spoke about the good treatment the UFC has given him in his new home after years of fighting in Japan for PRIDE.

“It was pure joy. I was really well received by the folks from the event. The whole time Dana would say, “Welcome to you new home.” I felt really comfortable with the treatment I received. All the employees welcomed me and said they had been waiting for me. Since Rodrigo does a good job and has a good relationship with everyone there, I felt the doors were already open.”

I am looking forward to seeing Rogerio’s next fight, because I think the UFC believes his debut was long overdo. Rogerio was considered to be a top ten light heavyweight when he fought for PRIDE, his knockout loss to Sokoudjou diminished that achievement.

If Nogueira continues to win and knockout his competition I fully expect the UFC to capitolize on his last name and push him into main event status sooner then usual.

btw, I love that front kick to the mouth Forrest did. I bet Wandy had that in his dreams. I recall years ago Wandy saying that if he fought Tito in Pride that Wandy would kick Tito in the mouth.
