Ever since coming to the UFC via The Ultimate Fighter Matt ‘The Immortal’ Brown (11-7) has come into his own winning 4 of 5 fights inside the Octagon and with his most recent performance coming in a third round TKO of Ultimate Fighter season 9 winner James Wilks earlier this month at UFC 105, he is looking to test himself further against bigger named opponents and two of those fighters that come to mind are Renzo Gracie and former welterweight champion Matt Hughes, but will the organization help make that happen?
In a new interview with MMAWeekly.com Brown who plans to get back in training sometime after the holidays spoke to UFC matchmaker Joe Silva and says that he would like to face Renzo Gracie who is expected to make his UFC debut at the early parts of 2010.
Renzo’s arrival to the organization has been discussed for quite sometime now as there were rumors of him facing former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes, but Brown wants to fight Gracie or Hughes not to help him further his MMA career but to also face them out of respect.
I believe the UFC has nothing to lose in making a fight between Matt Brown and Renzo Gracie as both fighters are fan favorites and it would be a bout of the old guard facing the new. Plus, it would also show how far Brown is ready for some of the more tougher competition in the stacked weight class, so only time will tell if such a match will be booked for a future UFC event.
