The news gets even worse for UFC fans hoping to see their injured middleweight champion Anderson Silva returning this February 6, against Vitor Belfort. It looks like he will not be ready for UFC 109, after recuperating from elbow surgery.
MMAJunkie.com is reporting that the champion will not be back in time to face Vitor Belfort at UFC 109 and will probably not return until April at the earliest.
Silva gave a update last week saying that he was still unable to train and wanted to “Choke the Doctor”who would not clear him to fight. Perhaps Silva was foreshadowing that he was not able to return on time for Belfort.
Some fans have speculated that Silva is side-stepping Belfort, because he does not want to fight him. They are also saying that he is using the elbow injury as a reason to avoid the fight.
In a previous interview with MMAJunkie, Anderson Silva’s manager Ed Soares responded to those rumors and said that the middleweight champion actually feels Belfort deserves a title shot.
I really hope the UFC is able to fill this card with a quality main event, because it is looking like they had they were really sure Silva would return on time for Febraury 6, 2010.
Now it looks like they may be forced to reshuffle the deck once again due to the injury of a champion.
