During a recent preview for UFC 107, former heavyweight champion Frank Mir said he felt his opponent Cheick Kongo has the worst ground game in the heavyweight division. Mir pointed out Kongo’s loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 99 proved he has no wrestling skills and is a obvious weakness in his game.

In the loss Kongo was hit in the head over 250 times by Velasquez and never was able to work his game on the ground.

“Obviously his wrestling is not the best wrestling,” Mir said of Kongo. “The fight with Cain Velasquez he was getting mauled for 15 minutes … very poor technique, had no answer. … No one is shocked by the fact that his ground game is amongst some of the worst ground game we have in the heavyweight division. I hope to take advantage of that. I feel that I’m pretty decent on the ground. … I feel that if I get on the ground it’s to my advantage, to win the fight.”

During the interview Mir also said he will not be afraid to stand with Kongo, which means he will not be in a rush to take the fight to the ground. While Kongo showed that his wrestling game a weakness at UFC 99, he also showed he can hurt you when coming inside to take him down. Kongo landed two big jabs on Velasquez that almost knocked him out as well, Mir should also focus his game on avoiding those big punches.
