With the WEC 45 event just a few weeks out the World Extreme Cagefighting organization is back at work putting together the upcoming WEC 46 fight card in January, 2010 as a lightweight matchup will feature Dave Jansen (14-0) and Kamal Shalorus (5-0-1). Originally it was rumored that Jansen was to face newcomer Bendy Casimir (19-5-2), but that appears to not be the case.
According to MMAJunkie.com WEC officials have confirmed Jansen’s participation for the January 10, 2010 card, but did not make any further comment on Shalorus being his opponent.
Still, bout agreements are expected to be finalized sometime later this week.
Dave Jansen made his debut with the organization back in the month of October for WEC 43 earned himself a decision victory over longtime WEC veteran Rich Crunkilton to remain undefeated in his MMA career.
Meanwhile Kamal Shalorus who was scheduled to face Alex Karalexis in his debut at WEC 44 earlier this month did not matter anyway as he made quick work of fellow newcomer Will Kerr and leaving a big impression as a new player on the scene in the promotion’s lightweight division. Now Shalorus will look to make another big impact in this next fight with Jansen.
WEC 46 will have a lightweight title bout as Jamie Varner returns from injury to face interim champion Ben Henderson for the undisputed lightweight crown and former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber also makes his return to the cage to face Raphael Assuncao in the night’s co-main event as well.
