Former multi-time UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes only fought one time in 2009 earning himself a unanimous decision victory over another former welterweight champion in Matt Serra this past May at UFC 98 and now it appears that he will be making his return to the Octagon in April of 2010, but does not have an opponent as of this time.
The news was delivered by Hughes himself on his personal web blog saying that his next fight will be on April 10, which will likely be for UFC 112.
Before the win over Matt Serra at UFC 98, Hughes was on a two fight losing streak prior to the win with losses to top contenders Georges St-Pierre at UFC 79 in a fight for the interim welterweight title and followed by a second round TKO defeat at the hands of Thiago Alves at UFC 85 in June of 2008.
As for his potential opponent, Hughes has been called out by some other top contenders in the UFC such as Josh Koscheck, Mike Swick and Jon Fitch, but Hughes has been putting those fighters off for quite sometime and will probably not face either of them. There has also been talk of him facing Renzo Gracie as well, but there has also been reports of that fight not happening in Renzo’s UFC debut, so until an opponent has been announced we will be right here to give you further details on the matter.
