Earlier today the California based StrikeForce organization has made a pair of big signings as they have brought in former EliteXC lightweight champion KJ Noons (7-2) and Dutch striker Melvin Manhoef (23-6-1) into the fold on a pair of multi-fight deals which speculation says the promotion’s newest additions could possibly be apart the StrikeForce “Evolution” event on December 19 in San Jose.
Sherdog.com got the news on the signing of Noons saying that if he does not make his StrikeForce debut this month then it will more likely take place in January of 2010 when the organization heads to the “Sunshine State” of Florida.
Meanwhile the signing of Manhoef was reported by MMAWeekly.com which adds more speculation that he could be stepping in to face former EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler, but instead the ‘Marvelous’ one will make his StrikeForce debut in early 2010 as he will be participating in the Fields Dynamite card in Japan on New Year’s Eve.
It is being expected that KJ Noons will remain at lightweight in his return to MMA as he spent most of the last year in a Boxing ring going 4-1 in that span, so there is no telling if there will be a rematch between him and his most heated rival in Nick Diaz, homie.
As for Manhoef, he has not had an MMA fight since DREAM 10 in July when he was submitted by former PRIDE and WEC veteran Paulo Filho as he has been competing in K-1 level matchups as well, but still makes a great addition to a StrikeForce roster that is already stacked with top level middleweights as Noons will also help bolster the promotion’s lightweight ranks in the process.
We will keep you further posted as soon as Manhoef and Noons both make their official StrikeForce debuts once news breaks out.
