Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is coming off of a impressive TKO win at UFC 105 over Luis Cane. Naturally, Rogerio wants to progress through the rankings of the 205 pound division and make a run for the title. So a fight against Brandon Vera did not make sense for him, because he is coming off of a loss at UFC 105.
Fighters Only Magazine caught up to Rogerio’s manager Luiz Alves, who confirmed that he light heavyweight’s next fight will take place at UFC 109 on Febraury 6, 2010.
“Rogerio is in the United States where he will fight on Feb 6th 2010 to UFC 106, the event which is expected to be headlined by Big Nog and Cain Velasquez.”While Rogerio does not have a opponent at the moment, Alves confirmed that Brandon Vera was offered as a possible opponent. Rogerio turned down the fight, due to the face that Vera was coming off of a loss to Randy Couture at UFC 105. Alves also said that he trained with Vera, which was also a reason he turned down the fight.
I know Nogueira has title thoughts, he has mentioned them in previous interviews. But why turn down a fight against Vera, when he has stated that he will not going to fight his teammate and current champion Lyoto Machida.
