Last month at WEC 44 a new featherweight champion was crowned as young Brazilian wrecking machine Jose Aldo went through former champ Mike Brown with a second round TKO ending Brown’s year long reign as the title holder at 145 pounds. But, in an attempt to help redeem himself Brown is not ready to sit and wait out for his next fight as he wants to fight as soon as January at WEC 46.
In a recent interview with FightHype.com Brown admits that Jose Aldo was very slick and difficult to handle throughout their WEC 44 title fight, but also shows a lot of praise for the 22 year old featherweight champion naming him the true number one 145 pounder in the world.
“Yeah, he was what I thought. He was slick on his feet, he was quick; nothing amazing quick, but he was solid. His takedown defense was better than I thought. I got a hold of his hips twice and he wasn’t easy to take down.”
Since the loss Brown has been back in camp with American Top Team training harder than ever for his next fight, but according to him WEC brass might not have him fight until March. However, Brown is anxious to get back inside the cage and wants to fight as soon as January for WEC 46 and is willing to beg for it in the process.
At this point last year Brown was the toughest featherweight fighter in the division as he knocked out Urijah Faber to become champion and now the changing of the guard has come full circle again this time with Jose Aldo now in the driver’s seat, but expect Mike Brown to make an even stronger push towards a title fight once again as he has proved that he can fight amongst the elite of the weight class.
But will that begin for him at WEC 46 in January of 2010?
