Ever since reports have surfaced of Renzo Gracie signing on to compete for the Ultimate Fighting Championship there has been talk of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt facing former multiple time welterweight champion Matt Hughes, and after so much speculation coming to light it may so happen that this fight could be taking place outside the U.S. in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates for UFC 112.
At today’s UFC 107 press conference UFC President Dana White was asked if there was any truth to the bout and it’s rumored location for the possible fight.
White who has recently scouted the location along with UFC COO Lorenzo Fertitta have mentioned that the promotion would be holding an event there in 2010 and hints that the Gracie vs Hughes bout could be a certainty as well.
It was also rumored that Renzo Gracie was also with White down in Abu Dhabi as Renzo has taught his craft to Sheik Tahnoon of the Royal Abu Dhabi family in the Middle East as the Sheik has earned his black belt under Gracie in the process.
In addition to the show being in the Middle East, UFC U.K. President Marshall Zelaznik has been negotiating a deal to get a future UFC fight card there and the outlook is saying that such an event could be going down sometime before the summer season as UFC 112 will be going down at some point in the month of April.
